Now you don’t have to worry about it anymore, there’s an exercise that can solve these problems. You can do it alone and you are free to do it. You are never limited by time or any places. Finally, a simple act of walk can reduce joint swelling and strengthen our muscles. Walking is not as likely to cause injuries as other exercise. It is a low-impact exercise that does not place too much strain on our muscles and joints. It reduces stress on joints and strengthens the muscles around our joints. Besides the physical health benefits, walking also has mental benefits. Those who walk regularly feel more confident. When our body gets healthier, we feel more confident and happier. Also, walking help us deal with negative emotions. Walking stimulates a surge of dopamine which induces feelings of happiness. Therefore, we feel less stressed, anxious or depressed after taking a walk. Finally, walking helps us sleep better. A stroll before bed relaxes our mind and body, helping us sleep more deeply. A good night's rest increases mental health, helping us get energy.
After knowing the physical and mental health benefits of exercise, there is one benefit of walking need to be mentioned the convenience of walking. Walking is the less limited exercise so that we can do it easily. Nowadays, people are always busy at work or their study, and they do not have enough time to do exercise; therefore, doing exercise regularly becomes a difficult dream. However, walking can make this dream come true. Walking does not have time limit. As long as you want to walk, you can do it anytime. For example, you can walk on your way to school rather than taking a bus. Or if you take a bus, you can get off before your destination and then you can walk to it. In this process, you not only save your money but also do exercise. In addition, you can also take a walk everywhere so that you do not need to go to the particular place to exercise. For example, you can take a walk around your house, or you can also take the stairs rather than take the elevator. Furthermore, walking is the cheapest exercise. You only need a pair of shoes to walk. Therefore, you do not need to pay for the gym and buy some extra equipment. Finally, walking is suitable for everyone. There are no restrictions on gender or age. Everyone can do it by themselves and do it everyday. In the morning, you can walk alone to start a new day. During the lunch break, you can take a walk with your friends to make your body gain some temporary release. At night, after a tiring day, you can walk your dog around your house to relax your brain and body. It will help you have a better quality of sleep to end this busy day.
But why do we want to do exercise? For most of us, it is because we want to become healthier. However, there are too many exercises that people can chose to do. Therefore, some people may think basketball is a great choice to do exercise. They will think while playing basketball, they can feel happy and also get healthier. But actually, basketball is not really a good exercise for us. As we all know basketball is a kind of fierce exercise. During a basketball game, it is easy to bump into other people and then get hurt. Also, while playing basketball, we have to suddenly jump, run and stop. This kind of behavior is very easy to injure our body. Besides, playing basketball is not very convenient because when we want to play basketball, we have to find someone to play with us first. And then we have to find a place to play it. The most important thing is that we have to carry the ball. As a result, we can not play it anytime and everywhere. Likewise, some people may think jogging is better than walking because they are very similar and people may think jogging is more effective than walking for getting healthier. Actually, jogging is almost like walking. We just need a sneaker and can do it anytime and everywhere. But compared to walking, going jogging is more easily to get hurt. While running, our feet will leave the ground simultaneously for a short time, and then touch the ground again. This behavior will put stress on our knees and ankles. But walking can provide the same benefits as running without the increased stress to the body. Then, it is known to all that swimming is the best choice to do exercise. In fact, it cannot be denied that the benefit of swimming is as good as walking for our body. Swimming can make our body become healthier and cause fewer injuries. Also, it is suitable for everyone. But it still has a disadvantage. That is inconvenience. When we want to go swimming, we have to know where the swimming pool is. Even if we found the place, we have to make sure it is not crowded with people. In addition, it is time consuming to prepare for swimming. Nowadays, many people are busy to work. It is not suitable for them by taking too much time for just swimming several hours.
As a result, walking is the best exercise. By comparing with other exercises, you have found that there are lots of benefits of walking. It is really convenient and easy to do so. It can help your body, provide you with a good life and prevent you from cancer. You will also gradually find your life become much more colorful and find yourself are becoming much healthier by doing it. Therefore, don’t hesitate anymore. Stop making any excuses and say you don’t have time or money to do an exercise. Walking is the best choice for you and you are always welcome to it at any time. So how about standing up now and go walking together!

Three Kinds of Teachers (Final Version)

Education nowadays in Taiwan merely focuses on textbooks, exams and scores without concerning the benefits of students and their right to be educated. Because of Taiwan's score-oriented education, there are few teachers encourage students to express their thoughts, but a lot of teachers only care about what kind of grades students receive in class. In general, teachers in Taiwan can be classified into three kinds. Each teacher has different teaching style that may have different influence on their students.
The first kind of teachers are those who always encourage students to take part in class. They ask students to share their ideas and teach them how to support the ideas with valid examples, which helps them develop the ability to think logically and make right decisions. Also, they teach their students how to learn, to sort and evaluate information, and even make judgments about evidence and sources. Finally, they allowed their students to have enough time to practice questioning, debating and researching. These teachers really care about their students and never blame them for having different ideas or different perspectives towards things. This kind of teaching results in a better classroom discipline and a greater student learning.
The second kind of teachers always urge their student to improve their academic performance. They ask their students to highlight the main point, to summarize and analyze each chapter and even require them to take notes of everything they said. In addition, they often prepare a lot of handouts or pop quiz and force their students to swallow a great number of homework even though their students can not digest them well. They also ask their students to remember everything from the textbooks for getting better marks. This “duck feeding” teaching does not train students to be creative but makes them work like copy machines without ability to organize ideas.
Finally, there are teachers who care about nothing. They tend to be neither support nor demand and thus often miss the warning signs from their students who are having trouble or under great sufferings. Also, students may feel unimportant and withdrawn without emotional support from their teachers. These teachers’ attitudes have negative effect on their students. In addition, they may not even care about students' academic performance since they teach nothing except repeat what the textbooks say and read it out loud like a parrot. This kind of teaching often leads to a depressing relationship between teachers and students.
To sum up, I admire the first kind of teachers who have a positive influence on their students. Students respect these teachers and know that they can go to them with problems of any kind no matter how big or small. This kind of teachers are the example that the other teachers should learn from.

Living in the Dormitory or Living at Home (Final Version)

Most students face a problem after they enter the college “Should I live in the dormitory or live at home?” There is a great difference between living in the dormitory and living at home. If we live in the dormitory, we can save time studying rather than spending time taking MRT or bus to go home. Also, if we live in the dormitory, we can know our classmates better and easily become friends. Moreover, we can learn how to be independent by living in the dormitory. Without our parents’ help, we can try how to solve problems by ourselves and be maturer.
In contrast, if we live at home, we have to take time to go to school and come back home. It pretty wastes our time and thus our studying time or space hour is much shorter than students who live in the dormitory. Secondly, we may not be familiar with our classmates than students who live in the dormitory because they have more time getting together. Finally, it is difficult for us to be independent since we have our parents be with us and always take us under their wing, our chances to solve problems by ourselves is less.
To sum up, living in the dormitory is better than living at home. It can be a turning point for us to be a truly grown up men.

Should Teens Have Cell Phones? (Final Version)

With the uae of cell phone growing rapidly for children and teens these days, cell phones have become a major concern for many parents. Different families have come to different conclusions on this issue. In some families, parents allow their kids to have their own cell phones, even kids who are not yet in their teen years. In other families, parents think it is unnecessary for their children to own a cell phone. Therefore, it often leads to a dilemma between children and their parents.
My parents are those who feel it is unnecessary for their kids to have cell phones. When I was in senior high, my parents told me that I could get a cell phone when I turned sixteen, so I asked for one as a birthday present. However, they broke their promise and said I could not get one because cell phones are fashion accessories and gaming devices that would only distract me from my schoolwork and waste my time. They thought it could be a distraction for me, even if it was just waiting for a call or message. They worried that I would waste time playing games or photographing since even the simplest cell phones seemed to come with games and a camera. Also, they believed cell phones had negative effects on my health. They believed the potential health risks of using cell phone were brain damage, hearing loss, radiation and tumors. Finally, they concerned about high phone bill costs which was just another expense that they had to pay for.
I knew my parents wanted to protect me from the dangers and abuses of cell phones as much as possible. However, they said I could get one when I turned sixteen. They are the ones who said it so I had the right to ask for one and I was quite sure I could use it properly. First, having a cell phone allowed my parents and I to keep in contact at all times, no matter where I was. I could never find myself without an opportunity to call my parents or emergency services if necessary. In addition, having a cell phone could help me develop my personal responsibilities. I would be responsible for taking care of my cell phone and not losing or damaging it. I would keep it to a limited number of minutes or text messages that my parents allowed me to use. Finally, if I had a cell phone, I would have no excuse for not calling home when I was going to be late. My parents could also use GPS to keep tabs on me at all times.
In sum, whether children have cell phone already or not, I really think phones can actually help parents keep kids safer. Parents should trust their children with this big responsibility. They can teach their kids how to use it responsibly and set the necessary limits. Thus, the dilemma between parents and kids can be solved.

Organization and Ideas

1.          Leight poses a question “Do the chances of a successful marriage actually improve by cohabiting?” Her answer is “NO”. She also quotes various cases and research in support of her opinion.

2.          Cohabiting and married couples have different characteristic. Cohabiting couples lack both specialization and commitment in their relationships. They generally live financially and emotionally independent to allow themselves to leave whenever they want. This often results in short-term relationships. In contrast, married couples specialize. They share household chores and pool their money, time and other resources to create a higher quality lifestyle.

3.          Leight prefers married couples than cohabiting couples because she shows the advantages of married couples and the disadvantages of cohabiting couples. She tries to break the misunderstanding that cohabiting improves the chances of a successful marriage and convinces people that trust and commitment is the key to successful marriage.

4.          I think it is sufficient enough for a research paper. Work cites shows references in a very detail way.

5.          No, I think this essay is pretty convincing.

Living on Tokyo Time

Organization and Ideas

1.          Butler describes that Japanese are so busy that they work 10 hours a day and even work on days off. They seldom take a vacation of more than four days. Therefore, a straight week is like a luxury for them. Students are no exception in such a fast-paced society in Japan. Their summer vacation is less than a month and they still have to do a lot of assignments.

2.          Why doesn't this cradle-to-grave, manic scheduling bother them? It is because Japanese grow up with a sense of time as a communal resource and obligation. They follow their culture and faith to build a well-organized society.

3.          Japanese believe that time belongs to the whole society and their priority is to serve it. To them, free time only exists when obligations have all done. In contrast, Americans believe time belongs to individuals. They own their own time and are reluctant to sacrifice it for work. Therefore, they take it for granted that their free time is none of their boss's or teacher's business.

4.          Butler probably prefers the life style in America because she says that she would not trade a lifetime of free time for all of the invaluable social goods in Japan.

5.          Americans treat time as it belongs to them and thus they know how to save time, spend them, invest time and even kill time. They force themselves to sacrifice their time for work to get money. Therefore, they think their free time is none of their boss's business.

Tiramisu---A Symbol of Love (Final Version)

What kind of dessert do you like most? Do you know how to make it? Or do you know the origin of it? My favorite dessert is Tiramisu. I always feel cheerful and delighted when I taste it. There are several versions about the origin of Tiramisu. Here is a sentimental and warm story I like the most. During the World War II, an Italian soldier had to leave his homeland for battle, his wife wanted to prepare some desserts for him. However, there was little food in their house so she had to make a dessert using the remainder biscuit, bread and coffee, folded them one layer by one layer and named this simple but full of love dessert “Tiramisu”. In Italian, Tiramisu means “pick-me-up” for highly energetic products like sugar and eggs with the caffeine of espresso coffee; there is also another explanation “take me away” which means taking away not only delicious, as well as love and happiness. When the soldier had a taste of Tiramisu, he would think of his hometown and his beloved wife. He took away not only Tiramisu, but also the deeply love from his wife.
In U.S.A., Tiramisu started becoming popular in San Francisco. Now, as a fashionable dessert, Tiramisu can be found in coffee shops, bakery outlets and restaurants throughout the nation. You may not understand Italian, but you must remember the word “Tiramisu”, because it is associated not only with dainty but also with love. That is why a lot of couples prefer to order one in the pastry house. The amazing taste mixing with coffee, cookies, egg, cheese and chocolate is just like the sweet feeling of love that once tasted, leaving an unforgettable experience. With its gorgeous taste and charming appearance, Tiramisu has been prevailing all over the world.
Tiramisu is made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a blend of eggs and cheese, flavored with liquor and cocoa and decorated with chocolate powder. The combination of coffee, chocolate and cream is the main feature of Tiramisu. It contains not only sweet but any feelings associated with sweet that evoke all kinds of warm experience. For me, Tiramisu is not only an amazing dessert with unbelievably fantastic flavor but a wonderful memory in my childhood. I used to have a cup of Tiramisu with my mom in a lovely café. It was like a secret place where we could enjoy a wonderful afternoon teatime. I was totally obsessed with Tiramisu when tasting it at the first time. It creates a multiple and exotic flavor mixing the soft ladyfingers with the bitter of expresso, the smooth of yolks, mascarpone and cream and the unique-smelling of mellow of wine and sweet chocolate. Tiramisu had conquered my mind. For me, Tiramisu was an extremely luxurious dessert and I was fully addicted to it because of its strong attraction and unique flavor. It seems that Tiramisu has a magical power that can cheer me up. Whenever I taste it, I feel like admiring a beautiful symphony which can wash my negative emotion away.
A few years ago, the café was shut down. I’ve tried numerous Tiramisu in other cafés but never found the one I tasted. None of them has the same unique taste. I realize that it is impossible to find an exactly same one. The great taste may disappear while the memory will last long and the meaning of picking me up will be right here in my mind forever.

The Handicap of Definition

Organization and Ideas

1.       In paragraph1 to paragraph4, the author points out that black people have to face a problem that is the handicap of definition: the question of what it means to be a black. In paragraph5 to paragraph7, he revels that what kind of thing is regarded as “white” and what kind of thing is regarded as “black”. In paragraph8 to paragraph 11, he talks about the importance of developing positive ethnic tradition.

2.      The author's point is that a definition of black is often too narrow. If this kind of situation still exists in the society, black children will be failures---by definition.

3.       A definition of what is black is often too narrow. Only by developing a positive ethnic tradition, can those blacks be physically and mentally successful.

4.       I think he doesn’t try to make "black" better by making them white. He just wants people with discrimination to change their thought. Let black and white have equal opportunities. Let black’s ability and effort be seen and be commended.

5.      No. the author just wants to show how people usually connect black with sex and this is
also one of the misunderstandings that the author wants to change.

Getting Angry Can Be a Good Thing

Organization and Ideas

1.          She points out that outrage can push people to achieve something. In paragraph 3, she mentions that how her good friend said something offended her and she turns her anger into the motivation of her life, fighting for other immigrants’ civil rights.

2.          I think she uses both chronological and particular to general. At the beginning of paragraph, she was 17 and then she revels how her anger becomes the power of her life and makes her devote herself to other immigrants’ rights.

3.          Outrage means negative emotion or the strong feeling that you have when something has happened that you think is bad and unfair, however, the author turns this words into something positive that can make people reach their goal.

4.          It is believable because she talks about her own experience. She feels that outrage give her power to fight for people’s civil rights but at the same time hollow her mind. Thanks to her family and something strong and good around her, outrage hasn’t occupied her completely.

5.    I think "I believe that a little outrage can take you a long way" is the thesis statement because she describes how her anger became the motivation of her life and make her fight for others.

Tiramisu---A Symbol of Love (Second Version)

What kind of dessert do you like most? Do you know how to make it? Or do you know the origin of it? My favorite dessert is Tiramisu. I always feel cheerful and delighted when I taste it. There are several versions about the origin of Tiramisu. Here is a sentimental and warm story I like the most. During World War II, an Italian soldier had to leave his homeland for battle, his wife wanted to prepare some dessert for him. When the soldier had a taste of Tiramisu on the war, he would think of his hometown and his beloved wife.
I was totally obsessed with Tiramisu when tasting it at first time.
